Ulster Rugby is delighted to announce that Academy forward, Bryn Ward, has agreed terms on a new deal that will see him become a contracted senior player next season.
Bryn Ward signs first Senior deal with Ulster Rugby | Ulster Rugby
I didn’t think much of this, as it just seemed like something that was inevitably going to happen after the season he had. Since though I saw it suggested on the leinster forum that this is only a one year deal and that’s an interesting talking point if so. To choose to only sign a one year deal when you’re so young. Maybe the thinking is if his meteoric rise continues, the irfu could be knocking with a central contract after the rwc. You’d imagine the season after that would be when ireland have to start building around the likes of him and Gleeson.
Bit of a risk just to go for one year, but then maybe it wasn’t a great offer and he’s backing himself to be a key member of the team next year to demand more ( and maybe ulster finances will be in better place next year). While he looks like he will part of Ireland plans in the future its a big jump to assume a central contract in on the card as Ireland are stacked in the back row. But then aren’t the IRFU moving away from “central contracts” and doing more “top-ups” now?
